The Wooded scene

To begin this tutorial, create a new document at a size of 408 x 256 and use the below settings.

		Now right click on the background layer and select, "Blending Options...". Now click on "Gradient Overlay".
			use settings at left and in Fig 1 then click OK

You should now have the following:

Now create a series of vertical shapes using the "Pen Tool". You'll notice in the below image, that some of the shapes are simply rectangles while the others are slightly wider at the base than the top. Once you are satisfied with both the shape and placement of the trees, you can merge the tree layers together.

Next, go to the main menu and select "Filter" then "Artistic" and lastly "Rough Pastels" and use the below settings. Click OK, then go to "Edit" then "Fade Rough Pastels" and turn it down to 8%.

Next, create a new layer and go to the main menu and select "Filter" then "Render" and lastly "Clouds". Set the Blending Mode to "Multiply" then duplicate the cloud layer.

You should now have the following:

Now select the "Brush Tool" and use the "Splatter" brush found in the options palette as shown below.

Now click along the bottom of the trees to symbolize undergrowth. You may wish to rid some of the brush/splatter that seems to stray from the bush. You can do this by selecting the "Eraser Tool" with a hard edge.

Now select the "Brush Tool" and use the "Splatter" brush found in the options palette as shown below.

This time click along the top of the trees. You again may wish to rid some of the brush/splatter.
